Michael Borggräfe is a sociologist with a focus on sociology of science, higher education research and organizational sociology. He studied sociology at the University of Bielefeld and received his PhD from the University of Kassel in 2018. In his dissertation, he studied German university administrations using their organizational charts and developed a systematic method to analyze organizational charts.

Since 2020, he has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at TU Berlin and is involved in the BMBF-funded project "Forms and Effects of Unsuccessful Research" (FEM). The topic of the project is field-specific forms of scientific failure, their consequences for the research biographies of individual scientists and for the knowledge production of their scientific communities.
